Salem Church Family,
Below is a statement from our District Superintendent Chip Hunter concerning the immediate response need for the people of Waverly TN.
As you see in point 2, items need to be at Antioch UMC between 9AM- Noon tomorrow.
If anyone would like to bring any items listed below to our Salem UMC Fellowship Hall tonight between 6:00-8:00 PM or between
7-9 A.M.tomorrow morning, I will deliver those items to Antioch UMC tomorrow.
Grace and Peace,
As you know, a few counties in the Red River and Harpeth River Districts were hit with a devastating flood this weekend. I spoke with the D.S. from the Red River District this morning. First Responders are still searching for people who are missing. They ask that we not send people into the area at this time, so that they can plan a coordinated effort. Below are three ways you and your church can help immediately. Our district strategy team is in communication with the conference response team, and I anticipate other opportunities to unfold as this staged effort continues. We will communicate those opportunities when we become aware of them.
1. Pray. Pray for those who have experienced loss of property and the loss of loved ones. Pray for the first responders, and pray for community leaders who are working around the clock.
2. Antioch First Collection Site: Tomorrow (Tuesday 9am-noon)
The churches in Waverly ask for certain items to help with the clean-up efforts. Antioch will collect those items tomorrow, load the items on a trailer and travel to the flood site. The address for Antioch UMC is:
41 Tusculum Rd
Antioch, TN 37013-3618
The list of items requested is below:
Baby diapers Non-personable food items Prepackaged snacks
Baby wipes Cleaning supplies Trash bags
Baby formula Clothes of all sizes and shoes Socks
Baby bottles/cups Hygiene Products Blankets
Baby Food Bottle waters
3. Money can be donated through a special PayPal account located on the TNUMC.com website. Here is a link to that page: TNUMC Disaster Response Donations. You can take up an offering and/or share this information with your congregation for them to donate individually.
