A Storm Update From Rev. Chip Hunter

Posted on March 3, 2020 at 12:20 PM Comments comments (0)

Storm Update

I know you are praying for those impacted by last night’s storms. Please add to your list the folks at Dodson Chapel and East End. Preliminary reports indicate that both churches suffered significant damage. Bishop McAlilly and Cumberland River District Superintendent, Scott Aleridge are reaching out to the pastors of those churches today. I will update you when I receive more information.

I am thankful for your willingness to support our neighbors. Many of you have already called to ask how you can help. Government Officials ask that only those trained as first responders report to impacted areas at this time. In the days to come there will be opportunities to help in tangible ways and the Tennessee Annual Conference is already working on organizing those efforts. The chair of the Tennessee and Memphis disaster response ministry, Robert Craig, has met by phone with UMCOR and the communication team for the Tennessee Annual Conference. You will receive information later today on how your church can help. Robert Craig’s email address is DisasterResponse@tnumc.org and here is a link to our conference disaster response web-page. Tennessee Annual Conference Disaster Response Web-page.

Once again, thank you for your prayers and for your warm heart.
I look forward to witnessing all the ways God works through you to bless our neighbors.

Peace,

Chip

Stuffed Animals For EMS Crews

Posted on March 2, 2020 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Salem UMC will be collecting
NEW or GENTLY USED stuffed animals
every Sunday during the month of March...

These stuffed animals will then be given
to our local Rutherford County EMS crews
who at some point will have a call that
involves a small child...

What better way to calm a distraught child???

If you can donate one (or a dozen)
the EMS crews would appreciate it...

You can simply leave them in your pew
and they will be collected after worship.

Thank you from our social media guy.

A message from the website staff:
(Joel Tompkins: Social media guy)
:D

If you have been kind enough to follow
us on ANY of our social media sites
chances are pretty good that you have
heard us say that 2020 is going to be
a big year here at Salem UMC and you
might have seen this hash tag:
#salemstrong

Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking
about, allow me to elaborate...

During the first two months of this year
we have seen an active increase in vistors
on this website compared to the same two
months (Jan. & Feb.) of last year...

In Janury of 2019 we saw 273 visitors
Comapred to 399 vistors we saw in January
of this year..
.

In February of 2019 we saw 342 vistors
compared to the 350 visitors this year and we still
have ONE WEEK left in the month!!!

Church family and friends...
2020 is here...
The ride is about to leave the station...
I hope you will stick around and enjoy the ride and help us
spread the word of all the AWESOME things that will
be happening here at Salem UMC and it all starts
this Sunday with the introduction of our new
Pastoral Family!!!

Thank you for being a part of our online minisrty
and I hope you can come see us in person soon!!!

Have a great weekend and God Bless!!!
Joel

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Methodist Church officially supporting Scouting.
February and March are the months for celebrating Scout Sunday.
Salem will celebrate Boy and Girl Scouting on 16 February.

Please bring any memorabilia from your own scouting experience.
We will share some stories during the morning fellowship and there will be space
in the fellowship hall to put exhibits and post stories.
