Advent study

Posted on December 5, 2020 at 2:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Our first Advent Study, last Tuesday, was very interesting. 13 folks were Zooming in with us.
Lots of good involvement! We looked at Mary's prophecy in Luke 2, also known as "The Magnificat."
She glorified God Who had worked mightily in her to begin the process of salvation for all people.
The little one within her was the Son of God. We also read of Elizabeth and Zacharias and the birth of John the Baptist.
This was also a miraculous pregnancy, for Elizabeth was barren and quite old.

This Tuesday, December 8, at 6:30PM, we will look at the first chapter of Matthew's Gospel.
It's the story of how Joseph, Mary's betrothed, reacted when he learned of her being with child.
Both Matthew 1 and Luke 3 have genealogies of Jesus, but they are different, wonder why?
Please read Matthew chapter one in preparation for our conversation.
Each session will be one hour.

And if we have time we will look at some of the Old Testament Prophecies of the First Advent of Messiah, Jesus.

You are welcome, invited and encouraged to Zoom in next Tuesday.

The first three of our Advent studies are on Tuesday and the fourth one is on Thursday, Christmas Eve.

Please reach out to Pastor Thad Collier for your Zoom invite...

Update

Posted on December 5, 2020 at 9:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Much has been happening at Salem UMC since we were able to resume in-house worship July 12, 2020. Unfortunaly the COVID 19 rate of transmission has continued to increase to the point we must now stop in-house worship for a time.
We will resume when the leadership feels it is safe to do so. Remember, “For nothing will be impossible with God” Luke 1:37"

.
Brother Thad, Joel, and Laura will be the only people present in the sanctuary.
The bathroom will be available if needed during worship time and remember to wear a mask (cleaning instructions are posted).
You will be able to participate in Sunday worship from your car in the parking lot either on FM 89,3
or FB Live or from your home on FB Live or the website later on Sunday (thank you Joel).

The attendant in the parking lot will be handing out prayer cards and offering elements
along with communion elements this Sunday. We will collect cards and offering as you leave.

Another great way to keep up with our group is by joining us for the Advent Study by Zoom.
We had the opportunity last week to share and learn from each other as we studied God’s word.
Thank you Brother Thad for making this possible.

If you would like to participate in the Zoom Advent Study please reach out to Brother Thad Collier

Sunday (Nov.29th) is the beginning of Advent...

If you would like to take part in the Advent readings
this year please see Linda Trebey or pastor Thad Collier...

Advent is a season of the liturgical year observed in most
denominations as a time of expectant waiting and preperation for
both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return
of Christ at the Second Coming...

Advent is the the beginning of the liturgical year in Western Christianity.

A message from our Pastor

Salem UMChurch Family,

Since we opened the Sanctuary for Sunday Services, we've had five great times of Worship together, with some precautions.

We have four outreaches for our Sunday Service

1. Live service in the Sanctuary @ 8:45

2. Live Parking Lot service @ 8:45 on 89.3 FM radio.

3. FaceBook Live service @ 8:45

4. Church Website, available later Sunday afternoon.

So, we will be in the Sanctuary again this Sunday, 9-27-2020 at 8:45am.

You know the drill: masks, temperature checks, hand sanitizer, social distancing, stay seated, no singing, enter through Fellowship Hall door, exit through front doors of sanctuary, offering in plates as you leave the sanctuary. Thank you for your patience!

This will be the 4th & last message in this series on "Forgiveness," I almost entitled it, "Are You Spittable?" I'll tell you about it Sunday. Some of the Scriptures as which we'll be looking are Micah 7:18-19; Isaiah 43:25; Ephesians 2:11-18; 1Corinthians 13:4-7.

Our Church Yard Sale is going strong today (Friday), it reconveins today from 3:00-5:00 pm and tomorrow, Saturday it runs from 7am-1pm.

God Bless you,

JCILTTGOGTF Philippians 2:11

Thad

Let's Worship IN THE HOUSE!!!

Salem Church Family,

Thank you for your attendance at Church last Sunday, whether you were in the Sanctuary, the Parking Lot, Facebook Live, or the Website.
I think if we combined all those we'd have our entire congregation back together, plus some.

It was great to be back together again in the Sanctuary. I'm so glad we have several options for worship.
My prayers are for your health and strength as we assemble again on Sunday.

This Sunday will be a bit better and more relaxing as we get used to worshiping together again with some modifications.

This is Communion Sunday. If you are in the Sanctuary or the Parking Lot, you will be given one of our individual sealed communion cups, which includes a small piece of bread, to open at the end of the service. If you are at home, please have a small piece of bread and some grape juice,
or liquid of your choice, ready as we all receive Communion together.

Please enter the church through the Fellowship Hall Door and exit through the front doors of the Sanctuary,
(unless you are in a wheelchair or on a walker or have difficulty with steps. if this is the case please use the ramp at the Fellowship Hall entrance.)

Please stop at the table as you enter the Fellowship Hall for a temp. check, hand sanitizer, and a mask if you don't have one.

Offering Plates have been placed at the exits as you leave the Sanctuary, we will not be passing the plates.

Masks are required for everyone.

We will remain seated during the entire service.

We will not sing the hymns, but will worship as we listen to beautiful hymns of our faith.

The pews are situated to assist in social distancing.

Ushers are needed for inside and outside Sunday services. Call Thad or Linda T.

Please see the "Salem Matters" email Beryl sent for more helpful announcements and info.
Feel free to give me a call if you have questions or advice.

Blessings in Christ Jesus,

Thad
